“Marketing is about content. Content is king.”

1-3 I have a special concern for you church leaders. I know what it’s like to be a leader, in on Christ’s sufferings as well as the coming glory. Here’s my concern: that you care for God’s flock with all the diligence of a shepherd. Not because you have to, but because you want to please God. Not calculating what you can get out of it, but acting spontaneously. Not bossily telling others what to do, but tenderly showing them the way.
4-5When God, who is the best shepherd of all, comes out in the open with his rule, he’ll see that you’ve done it right and commend you lavishly. And you who are younger must follow your leaders. But all of you, leaders and followers alike, are to be down to earth with each other, for—
God has had it with the proud,
But takes delight in just plain people. – 1 Peter 5:1-5 MSG

1. Content can be divided into two categories: The Message and The Motive.

•The Message: What you want to say.
•The Motive: Why do you want to say it?
– The goal is to get people to the church so that we can serve them.

“Every time I preach, I ask myself before I go out: ‘How can I help people?’ ”

2. Marketing is comprised of two things: Tone and Timing.

•Tone: How do I want to say it?
– You want to display diversity, and authenticity.
– Use pictures. Pictures speak a thousand words.
•Timing: When do I want to say it?

“If you preach the gospel, people will come back and not even know why they’re coming back. The gospel is magnetic”

3. On Church Websites

•Give yourself permission to not wait until it’s perfect. It’s never going to be perfect.
•There are plenty of tools and resources to build a quality website in house and empower people to design it.

“God called His creation good at the end of each day when the work wasn’t even finished yet.”

4. On Church Logos

•See how it looks in black and white to begin with. Don’t start with colors.
•Stay away from cliche logos.
•Keep it simple.
– Consider the nike swoosh: it’s timeless. Less is more.

“The best marketing is (still) word of mouth”
