THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

“… but these things are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:31

“That you might believe.” To believe is more than mental assent, or intellectual awareness. It is more than knowing the history or the context. It is to choose to go all in, drink the cup, to risk it all based on an inner conviction that Jesus is. In the above passage from John chapter 20:31, John gives us a clear expression of his purpose in writing the fourth gospel. “That you might believe that Jesus is…”, this is John’s mission and message!

This spring, we invite you to connect with your Destiny Covenant Family for 6 weeks of study in the Gospel of John. Weekly instructions will be emailed and posted on the Connect Page for you and your team to follow along as we dive in to the Gospel of John, and grow Bigger, Better, and Stronger together!

Program Guide and Reading Schedule

Week One | February 15-21

  • Read chapters 1-4
  • Start your Gospel of John Journal. We encourage you to journal through this six-week process.
  • We encourage you to journal through this six-week process. Remember, we read for information; we write for understanding. Anointed speakers are going to open biblical passages to us and we are going to dive deeper into the text together. Make careful notes. Distill the material into sentences and prayers from your heart as you interact with the material and record them in your journal. As you record your thoughts and feelings, prayers and revelations grow from the material you are consuming. This is a critical key to getting Bigger. Better. Stronger. spiritually.
  • Watch the video for week one. Our special guest presenter is Pastor Landon Gallowayfrom Grace Church in Tomball, Texas.
  • Watch the Recording of the Week 1 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon

Week Two | February 22-28

    • What are you learning? What is the Holy Spirit saying to you, showing you? What were your thoughts as you engaged with the material this week? What was John’s purpose in recording the seven signs (miracles) he includes in His Gospel?
  • Watch the video for week 2. Our special guest presenter is Pastor Micah Sutton from 5 Lakes Church in Sylvania, Ohio.
  • Watch the Recording of the Week 2 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon

Week Three | March 1-7

  • Read chapters 9-12
  • Start your Gospel of John Journal.
    • Are you living the life Christ came to provide for you? How has your life improved since you met Jesus? Record it in your journal. This week, write a prayer asking for deeper insight into the life God planned for you through Christ. Let it challenge and encourage you forward. Write a brief prophecy over your personal life and declare it in Jesus name.

  • Watch the Recording of the Week 3 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon

Week Four | March 8-14

  • Read chapters 13-16
  • Continue your Gospel of John Journal.
    • Do you have questions about baptism? Write them out, ask them. Record what conclusion you have drawn from the text, message and discussion. We sometimes refer to experiences as baptisms of sorts. What experiences have you been baptised with as you have surrendered and decided to follow Christ?

  • Watch the Recording of the Week 4 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon

Week Five | March 15-21

  • Read chapters 17-18
  • Continue your Gospel of John Journal.
    • We often call the prayer recorded in Matthew chapter 6 the Lord’s Prayer, but that is really the believer’s prayer taught to us by Jesus. The Lord’s prayer is actually recorded for us in John chapter 17. In the fashion of Jesus’ prayer, write your own prayer in your journal this week. Think about it. If you could speak directly to the Lord of Heaven and Earth, how would you pray for your brothers and sisters in the Kingdom? For your church? How would you petition Him for the world? Continue to record your thoughts as you engage with the material.
  • Watch the video for week 5. Our special guest presenter is Pastor Paul Cook from Life Central Church in Plano, Texas.
  • Watch the Recording of the Week 5 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon

Week Six | March 22-28

  • Read chapters 19-21
  • Finish your Gospel of John Journal.
    •  As we come to the climax of John’s story, what do you see, hear, smell? Experience the crucifixion, feel the weight, hear the crowd. See our Savior die. Think about the text, the disappointment of His followers. Then, go with those who visited an empty tomb. Feel the exhilaration of resurrection. Hope lives! Tell someone this week about the resurrection and how you found hope in a Savior who died, was buried and rose again with the keys to death, hell and the grave.
  • Watch the video for week 6. Our special guest presenter is Pastor Jonathan Moore from Northrock Church in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Watch the Recording of the Week 6 Roundtable conversation with Dr. Brassfield and Pastor Landon
